Sunshine Is Free!

Why not take advantage of the opportunity to generate some of your own energy, on your own roof? EnerG3 can help you navigate the process of obtaining a solar roof. On-site Solar, such as solar roofs, offers electricity at ~$.06 kWh while 100% clean energy with no pollutants. Solar can reduce energy costs by 25-40% and provide a reliable, independent source of day-time power.

How Solar Power Systems Work

Many of us have seen solar panels start to pop up on roofs and in open areas around our towns, but how do these panels actually make use of the suns energy and reduce your power bill?

Solar Panels

The solar panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity throughout the day when the sun is shining.

Roofing System

When your solar is resting on the building’s roof, there are additional physical and financial incentives to consider in combining the roofing system with solar energy.

Inverter

This device converts the DC electricity generated by the solar panels into the alternating current (AC) electricity. AC electrical current is standard in North America.

Electrical Panel

The AC electricity is sent from the inverter to your electrical panel to power your lights and appliances with solar energy. The electrical panel is often called a “breaker box.”

Utility Meter

The utility meter measures your energy use. It actually goes backward in most regions when your system generates more power than you immediately need. This excess solar energy offsets the energy you use at night. The utility rules change from nation, state to state (or provinces), to utilities. These can be complex, unless you entirely go off the electrical grid.

Utility Grid

Your business is still connected to the grid. You’ll need that power from the utility company at night or what you don’t produce on-site, but don’t worry. The cost is predominately offset by any excess solar energy you put into the grid during the day.

Monitoring System

There are various monitoring systems that continuously tracks your energy production and ensures that your solar power system is running smoothly. It will even alert our repair crews in the rare event that problems arise.

Is Solar Power for Me?

Solar power systems can offer benefits for various types of opperations, but certain situations have better payback along with other perks.

New Roof

The best time to consider a solar power system is when you are planning on replacing your roof.

Time of Use

Often the utility will be the battery for solar production during the day, with Net Metering rules. Otherwise, solar production matches First Shift operations.

Environmental & General Benefits

Solar panels on a roof provide indirect environmental benefits

• The roof material is shaded from the sun, resulting in a longer useful life and reduced waste

• The solar panels provide shading and cooling of the roof, resulting in reduced heat penetration through the building envelope. In warmer climates, this translates to reduced HVAC needs and less electricity consumed

Every kWh of solar-produced electricity consumed on site offsets electricity that would otherwise have been imported from the electric grid. This has direct environmental benefits

• Saving water that would otherwise be lost to evaporation, to the tune of 2 gal/kWh on average in the USA

• Reducing pollutants produced by fossil fuel plants

Social benefits are directly associated with local production of solar energy

• Local job creation

In traditional energy production, around $0.75 of the energy dollar leaves the local economy. According to the Iowa Policy Project locally owned renewable energy projects generate 5-10 times more local economic benefits than do conventional ownership models
